Registration Starts Today-May 16th for the Mattoon YMCA's First AutiSwim Camp!

AutiSwim Camp is a structured summer session program for children with autism. The camp will be conducted like a typical swim class focusing on pool safety, developing swimming skills and helping the children with their confidence in or around the water. There will be two instuctors who will be using visual and sensory aids. The goal of the program is to work with children who have all different levels of abilities. The staff plan to work with the parents or caregivers to set individual swimming goals for the student, build self-esteem and family support, participate in a swimming exhibition event at the end of each session. A parent or caregiver will be expected to be around or in the pool during the class. The AutiSwim Camp Session 1 starts May 21st-June 25th, 2010. The sessions are six weeks long and held on Fridays 4:15-5:00p.m. The session cost is $24 for YMCA

Members/$48 for Non-Members. Session 2 starts July 9th. It is very important that parents register, so that the YMCA will have a idea of how many children will be attending plus a parent meeting will need to be scheduled prior to the start of camp. There is financial assistance available for membership and for specific programs like the camp. Parent Liaison, Julia Boyd, is available to discuss any questions or concerns: Boyd's e-mail is jboyd@consolidated.net or call 234-4793. For registration please register at the Mattoon YMCA. 221 N. 16 th St. Mattoon, IL 61938 or call 217-235-9622.
